It is a common habit for people to buy vape juice than needed at a time. Which begs the question, does vape juice expire and go bad? We’ll get to this later in the post. This habit creates another problem when we end up with more than we can use before it expires. The same problem can happen when it comes to vape juice.
You bought too many products, and now you’re wondering when they will expire and what you should do when it happens. In this article, we will address this problem – can vape juice expire and what that means.
Does vape juice expire? Can it go bad?
Yes, vape juice does expire. However, please remember that e-liquid can last for a long time before it needs to be disposed of. The thing with e-liquid products is that they degrade slowly over time. They can’t just go bad in an instant even when they have already passed the best before date.
A rule of thumb is e-liquid can last for about two years starting from the manufacturing date. But not all e-liquids are the same since each is made with a different formulation. For example, vape juice that contain nic salt degrade slower than e-liquids that contain nicotine. Vape juices with fruity flavors also tend to degrade faster than other e-liquids with more complex flavors.
You can decrease the degradation rate by storing your e-liquids properly. The best place to keep your e-liquids is somewhere dry, dark, and cool. In comparison, if you store your e-liquids in a warm, bright, or damp place, or even worse, with the lids left open, the e-liquids will degrade much quicker.
What happens when e-liquids go bad?
When e-liquids finally go bad, you will notice changes in their smell and color. However, the degradation of e-liquids mainly happens inside and affects the nicotine and flavorings.
Here are some signs that e-liquids have gone bad:
- Strength – Oxidation will cause the nicotine to become weaker.
- Separation – The ingredients in the e-liquid will begin to separate. This will make the liquid look thicker but only at the bottom of the bottle. You can’t mix the ingredients again by shaking the bottle.
- Smell – The smell of the e-liquid will disappear completely.
- Flavor – Since the ingredients separate, the flavor will either change or disappear completely.
- Color – Oxidation will make the color of the e-liquid darker
Can you use expired vape juice?
The thing with expired e-liquids is that they are still safe to use. None of the ingredients will turn toxic and make you sick or anything. However, expired vape juice will smell and look different, and their effects will diminish greatly, making them somewhat useless.
That said, you should dispose of expired e-liquids, especially when you start seeing changes. Expired e-liquids are unpleasant to use due to their different thickness, strength, smell, and color. So to be safe, discard all expired e-liquids and only use fresh e-liquids.
If your e-liquid has passed the best before date on the label, but you can’t see any changes, you might want to use it still and see for yourself if it’s still good or not.
Store your e-liquids properly
Again, I want to remind you to store your e-liquids properly. vape juice can last for at least two years, and if you store them properly, you can ensure that they are good and safe to use before the best date.
